Nottingham Sexual Violence Action Network (SVAN) is a group of organisations who are working towards increasing awareness of the importance of getting consent for all sexual activity and encouraging those who have experienced sexual assault or rape to report this to the police. In collaboration with Nottinghamshire Police, the SVAN is conducting research into the understanding of sexual consent in Nottinghamshire and has released the first Sexual Violence Survey for Nottinghamshire. The aim of the survey is to find out the understanding of consent in Nottinghamshire, to help the SVAN shape their activity and target their communications effectively. However, they hope it will also serve to address a number of rape myths and improve everyone’s understanding of consent. This has been worded to address perpetrators directly.

At the start of the survey it states:

  • Your answers will be treated confidentially and your demographic data will not identify you as an individual. We will use anonymised responses to the survey for internal and external communications and campaigns.
  • This survey contains questions directly relating to sexual violence and rape - this may cause distress and participation should be at your own discretion. Contact details for the 24 hour Domestic and Sexual Violence Helpline are available on each page and, if at any point you feel uncomfortable, clicking the 'exit now' button will end the survey. The survey is supported by Nottinghamshire Sexual Violence Support Services
